What can I say about this book that hasn't been said already in multiple other reviews? It's amazing. It's an epic love story between two bestfriends who grow apart, the gap so wide between them that Ben doesn't expect to ever see Zac again. If he does he might deck him, for taking his heart ten years earlier and smashing it into a million pieces. So, when he turns around and sees the one guy he never thought he would see again, standing on his balcony at his family cottage, he is pissed and turned on all at once. Yet, does it matter? How can he ever trust Zac again...and even if he could..why would this gorgeous man want him a broken scarred up man?“You have no idea what you’re asking for,” he answered with a disbelieving shake of his head. “It’s the ‘not knowing’ where we’re going that makes this ride worthwhile,” Zac said. “Give us a chance, Ben. Christ, don’t let this end before it even begins.” “Yeah, and the final destination on that ride could destroy us both.” Zac’s fingers curled around the back of his neck. “I’m willing to take the risk. Are you?”
Zac arrived at Bens cottage with one, well maybe two things on his mind. First, he wanted to apologize to Ben for leaving like a thief in the night, that night ten years earlier when Ben shared himself with Zac. Second, he wants to try to get to know Ben again and hopes to build a relationship with him. Third, yes there is a third...he sees Zac and he knows without a shadow of a doubt he wants this man and he isn't going to rest until he makes him his.
So, this book is a slow burn, the sexual tension between these two gets so thick you could probably walk on it and the yearning they each have for each other just makes the build that much sweeter. See Ben is afraid - he doesn't want his heart trampled on again. Where, Zac...he is set in making Ben his and nothing is going to stop him...not even family skeletons that fall out of the closet and the distance between them due to his job.
Can these two reconnect? Will Zac be given his Mulligan or is Ben just too far gone to risk his heart again? Check this book out - I highly recommend this book and the Rock God's Series you just can't go wrong with any of them!

Not as good as the Rock Gods, but still good, a little to much personal angst, not my thing, and I felt as if their story was not quite finished, I don't do spoilers so, but I wanted to know more about how they handled their east coast west coast relationship, and since I will more than likely skip the next book, since one of the characters is a twink, let me be clear I read mm for the sexynes of two strong male characters, both alphas not a feminine bone in their body's ;) since I'm a het woman I like strong masculine men, and if I want a fem heroine I will read a mf book, thats just me and my taste. I am hoping the author will give us more rock theme in the future maybe the Skulls. Regardless, this book was well written and this author is a goto author for me when it comes to mm, and even though this book did not rock my boat so to speak, like the Rock God's did, it does not mean I will stop reading, just not this series, I will see. As far as recomending this book, sure I can do that, start with the RG'S fyrst though.

This is the heart warming story of inseparable childhood best friends, Zac and Ben. In their teens, Zac leaves for the military without as much as a goodbye, unknowing that Ben has fallen in love with him. An unfortunate accident leaves Zac with extra time on his hands and his thoughts go to his childhood best friend. He's never gotten Ben out of his head or heart and decides that a decade is too long with no contact. He yearns to reconnect with Ben and wants a "do-over" but can Ben put the past aside and let that happen?
Zac and Ben's story took me on a roller coaster of emotions. I swooned, laughed and cried. My heart broke and was put back together. I longed for Zac and Ben to be together again but for them, it was a tough journey. In the end, it was a HEA and a beautifully written story of forgiveness and second chances.
Not only did I adore Zac and Ben's story but I also LOVED the glimpses we get into the lives of the Rockers from the Rock Gods series. Ann does a wonderful job of weaving the Rock Gods into the story and giving us a taste of the men we've already fallen in love with! If you love rock star stories like I do and you haven't read the Rock Gods series by Ann, run to now and one-click Fall for Me! You won't be sorry!!!
Last but not least, I am a HUGE fan of Ann Lister!! I adore her books, love her writing style and this book definitely has it all! You can feel the love and friendship and the hurt and angst. The emotions fly off of the pages and into your heart. And the chemistry between Zac and Ben is off the charts H.O.T.!!! I thought my was going to combust and go up in flames!
If possible, I would give this book more than 5 stars. I've just finished Book 1 in this series and already can't wait to see what Ann has in store for us with Book 2 in the series!!
I was crushed when I read the last of the Rock God's Series! I feel in love with all those characters and their partners! However, Ann did not disappointed me with first book of this series Guarding of the Gods!!!
Zac Mulligan was the sexy bodyguard that went on tour with our sexy rock gods and got stabbed while on duty but with the advise of Lincoln decides it is finally time to go home and finally decide who he is and what he wants....or who he wants....
Ben has loved Zac all of his life but when Zac left after that one night without a word and comes back ten years later wanting forgiveness and another try can Ben open his heart up again? Will Zac leave again and think that this is just another phase or will this time he actually love Ben but will the lie that Ben is keeping about their families destroy everything they areven trying to rekindle?
This is an absolutely amazing read! Loved getting to know the Zac and Ben characters as well as reading about all of my favorite Rock of God's characters!!!!
